1. What is Cardano governance?
Cardano has developed an on-chain governance framework designed to give the community a direct role in the network’s evolution. Under this model, ADA holders can participate in governance decisions regarding the protocol, its parameters, treasury-related initiatives and other ecosystem-level proposals.
Cardano’s governance model is based on several independent groups, including Delegated Representatives (DReps), Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) and the Constitutional Committee. This structure is designed to distribute decision making power to avoid concentrating it within a single entity.
For ADA holders, this means that participating in Cardano goes beyond staking. It also means having the ability to contribute to the network’s governance and to influence its future direction.
2. What is a DRep?
A Delegated Representative, or “DRep,” is an individual or organization that holds ADA and has chosen to directly participate in the network's governance, to which other ADA holders can delegate their on-chain voting power.
The concept is relatively simple: instead of evaluating and voting on every governance proposal themselves, ADA holders can delegate their voting power to a DRep they trust to represent their interests.
DReps review governance proposals and vote on behalf of the ADA holders who have delegated their voting power to them.
Importantly, governance delegation is non-custodial and reversible. ADA holders retain ownership and control of their ADA and they can change or remove their DRep delegation at any time.
This creates an important accountability mechanism: DReps need to remain transparent and actively participate in governance to maintain the confidence of their delegators.
3. Why does DRep participation matter?
As Cardano’s governance framework develops, the quality and diversity of DReps become increasingly important. Governance proposals can involve complex technical, economic, and ecosystem considerations. DReps are responsible forstudying proposals, assessing their potential impact, and making informed voting decisions.
For ADA holders, choosing a DRep is ultimately a way of choosing who they trust to represent their governance interests.
A healthy DRep ecosystem should therefore encourage:
- Decentralization: through a broad and diverse set of representatives
- Transparency: through clear communication around voting decisions
- Accountability: as ADA holders can change their delegation
- Expertise: allowing complex governance proposals to be evaluated by informed participants
- Long-term thinking: with decisions focused on the sustainable development of the Cardano ecosystem
4. Meria joins Cardano as a DRep
Meria is now officially participating in Cardano governance as a Delegated Representative. As a DRep, our role will be to review governance proposals, participate in on-chain voting, and represent the interests of ADA holders who choose to delegate their voting power to us.
As participants in the network, we can contribute to technical expertise, operational experience and an institutional perspective to governance discussions.
Joining the DRep community therefore represents a natural extension of our existing involvement in Cardano.
5. Institutional-grade ADA staking through our pool
Alongside our governance role, we are also deploying institutional-grade staking solutions through our Cardano stake pool.
For institutional participants, staking is not only about generating rewards. Professional investors, custodians and other market participants increasingly require reliable infrastructure, operational resilience, transparency and strong security standards. Our objective is to provide professional-grade staking infrastructure while maintaining the core principles of Cardano staking.
Cardano’s native staking model allows ADA holders to delegate their stake to a pool while retaining control of their assets. Staking delegation does not require transferring ADA to the stake pool operator.
This non-custodial model is particularly relevant for institutional investors as it allows staking to be integrated into professional custody and asset-management frameworks without requiring the validator or pool operator to take custody of the underlying assets.
6. Key takeaways
Cardano’s governance model gives ADA holders a direct role in shaping the future of the network. DReps play a central role in this system by representing the voting power of ADA holders and participating in on-chain governance decisions.
By becoming a DRep on Cardano, Meria is taking a more active role in the development and governance of the ecosystem.
Meanwhile, through our Cardano stake pool, we are developing institutional-grade staking infrastructure designed to meet the operational and security requirements of professional participants.
We see these two activities as complementary: participating in the governance of the network while building the infrastructure that supports its continued growth and decentralization.
Our goal is simple: bring institutional-grade staking infrastructure across leading Proof-of-Stake networks while actively contributing to the communities that govern them.
